1. A brief history of galvanizing
Among the most commonly used metal coatings for the corrosion protection of iron and steel components is zinc, commonly known as galvanization.
The reasons include:
• it is the cheapest metal usable for electroplating,
• zinc is a less noble metal than steel and therefore provides protection against corrosion as long as the coating is present,
• depending on the deposition and post-treatment technology, its decorative appearance and protective value can be widely varied: transparent, blue, yellow, olive green, and black chromate layers, with protective effects that can be further enhanced by clear varnishes,
• its toxicity is moderate.

Another important application of zinc anodes is in preventing corrosion on other metals. The protective properties of zinc anodes are due to their higher negative reduction potential compared to the protected metal. The oxidizing agent that corrodes the metal oxidizes the zinc anode instead of the protected metal structure, thereby preventing the system from rusting. Thus, this material acts as a sacrificial anode, releasing electrons and slowly corroding the anode instead of the actual metal, with a less negative charge.

Zinc Anodes

Crystal zinc anode:

Chemical symbol: Zn

This product was developed by Szakács Chemical-Metal Kft. in cooperation with the Croatian company Metalna galanterija i galvanizacija d.o.o., within the framework of the Interreg V-A Hungary–Croatia Cooperation Program, B-Light project.
Currently available zinc anodes are cast or drawn. Their common characteristic is that, due to their production technology, they have a surface crust. Sodium hydroxide must first break this crust, which slows down the dissolution process.
Its modernity and novelty lie in the fact that one of its surfaces is slightly drawn, ensuring mechanical strength, while the other surface is fractured, representing the zinc crystal structure. Due to the surface design, sodium hydroxide comes into more intensive contact with zinc, resulting in a faster zinc–sodium hydroxide reaction than before.
Its economic advantage is that the galvanizing technological process becomes more controllable, thereby increasing production efficiency.

Project title: Design and development of new and more modern zinc anode

Purity: Zinc anodes are made of high-purity SHG (Super High Grade) zinc > 99.995%.

Size: 16 x 15 x 15 mm

Product description: Zinc anodes are the purest products for zinc baths. The special manufacturing method allows
for the reduction of impurities and, above all, provides an oxidation-free surface. This enables much more efficient dissolution
than other anode forms.

Application: Zinc anodes are placed in titanium or iron baskets. They are particularly effective for non-cyanide alkaline baths with an external
dissolving tank. Their special shape allows maximum contact with iron, accelerating the dissolution process.

Crystal zinc anodes can also be used for acid baths based on zinc chloride, potassium chloride, or ammonium chloride,
as well as zinc sulfate baths.

Finally, they are also suitable for cyanide baths containing sodium cyanide, zinc oxide, or zinc cyanide.

The anodes allow for easy maintenance of the metal level in the baskets. Due to their small size, they are particularly suitable
for continuous operation.

Packaging: 25 kg cardboard box (other types of packaging available upon request).
